The Challenge
The Challenge is a great opportunity for young people to have a taste of business and ignite an entrepreneurial spirit. The best way to describe the Challenge is like an episode of the Apprentice. Young people will put in teams and have to undertake a business task.
For young people we’ve done:
· Creating a restaurant
· Designing a new sports brand
· Creating a marketing campaign for a new retail store.
Working in teams they will be using a range of skills including:
· Innovation
· Team Work
· Leadership
· Numeracy and Literacy
· Presentation Skills
It’s a always a great learning space, but you see young people realising that actually “I would like to do this”. We’ve also found that young people better appreciate education and teachers have told us that they’ve seen real changes.
We ensure that the whole process is really stimulating. Some of the things we do includes:
· Hosting the Challenge at a University so the young people have that experience
· Have high profile individuals come and take part as judges
· Invite local businesses to participate (including contributing prizes).
And don’t forget parents, it could be a great way of engaging young people and parents in a light but very meaningful experience.
