Choices

Choices

This is an opportunity for young people to use forum theatre in reflecting on choices they have made in the past and how they can make more informed and better choices in the future.

Choices aims:

·         To use forum theatre's power and inclusion to help young people reassess their choices positively and to give them skills that will continue to allow them to make such choices.

·         To encourage young people to tell their stories using various techniques such as drama, dance and music and encourage them to reflect on the full and long term implications of their choices

·         To give young people experience of professional level drama and performance skills that may lead to further training or career choices.

·         To use the project to bring to a far wider audience the authentic experience and stories of young people and how gang culture affects and shapes their lives, to encourage an honest debate about the issues that face young people, particularly society’s most vulnerable.

The process includes the following elements:

  • A theatre director and actors working with young people using forum theatre techniques to help them reassess their choices
  • The drama team working with the young people on the project to help them develop a range of performance skills depending on their individual choices and needs
  • A playwright developing the stories and forum theatre workshops into a full play that will be performed at a    London theatre, using a combination of professional actors and gang members (depending on who is involved and the experiences that emerge from the project)

We work with New Company an award winning, professional theatre company, producing new works that spring from major current events.  Alphabetkidz is a Young Person’s Model, Acting and Voice over agency. They will provide additional development support for young people, but also offer real opportunities for some of your young people being signed up to one of the country’s leading talent agencies.
