What is The Challenge.

The Challenge is exactly what it says: an invigorating business challenge to test and refine participant’s leadership, management and business skills with a group of like-minded and motivated business leaders. We’ve all watched The Apprentice and thought “What on earth are they doing?” or “I could do better than that”. Well, The Challenge gives participants that opportunity.

How does it work?

You will arrive in the evening at the chosen venue. After introductions and dinner you will be put into teams. A team will comprise of other business owners who you probably have never met. All the teams will then be set a very challenging business related task and the timescale in which they have to complete it. A panel of judges will rigorously assess the work and the winning team will be awarded a prize. Simple idea. Tough to win!

The participants will gain:

  • new ideas and strategies
  • new business leaders’ network
  • new business opportunities
  • renewed focus
  • an exhilarating 24 hours

Why do the Challenge?

A lot of small/medium businesses are so busy staying alive, that you don’t get the opportunity to jump off the treadmill invest in yourself and then bring benefits to the business. The Challenge is going to test a range of skills including:

  • Innovation
  • Financial management
  • Leadership skills
  • Decision making
  • Team work

We’ve designed The Challenge to give participants reflective time and space to think how their performance mirrors what’s happening in their own business. They’ll have the chance to consider how to take the learning back to their business and apply it imaginatively and concretely.

The Target Audience

The target audience is business owners and business leaders. This could be a Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director, Chief Finance Officer, Marketing Director etc. There are lots of titles that this person could be, but they should normally defined as senior management.

Funding

Given the tough times that a lot of people are facing, then it makes great sense to receive 1st class training at no (or minimal) cost. Train to Gain is a government initiative for training and development funding for Leadership and Management, that small and Medium Businesses are eligible to access. The fund is available for one person per organsiation. These are the criteria:

  • The person must be the most senior officer (smaller businesses) or senior management.
  • The organsation must have between 5 -249 employees.
  • The applicant must have lived in an EU country for 3 years.
  • They cannot have used this funding before for any other activity.

If these criteria are met, they are probably entitled to the funding. And the fact is most people don’t know they are eligble. If you click on the Train to Gain PDF, you can download information from Train to Gain on how the process works. We’ve provided both with information from Train to Gain and a flowchart so you understand how the process works.
