Moving Home is a very powerful team building programme, supporting teams to reflect on their past, draw lines in the sand and develop new mindsets and behaviours for the future.
Using the metaphor of moving home, this is a very practical but refreshing approach for new teams, those experiencing turbulence, or teams who want to move to their next level of development and performance.
Participants begin the day with an eviction notice from their current landlord. They are then informed that they must move to a new smaller property with their colleagues as fellow tenants. When we move one of the key things we need to do is look at the baggage (and junk) that we’ve collected. Teams have to decide what they really need and what they’re going to dispose of. This equates to mindsets and behaviours which have brought the team to where they are now.
Participants are then asked to focus on what they want their new home (working environment) to look like and the relationships they want with their fellow tenants (colleagues). The landlord (facilitator) will be responsible for negotiating a new tenancy agreement and drafting it. All tenants (colleagues) will sign the contract and then receive the keys to their new properties. The strong imagery is designed to provide familiar context, whilst drawing participants to the reality of their work experience.
Moving Home will have various exercises throughout the day to address the particular needs of the team. Exercises can include the 4D model of appreciative enquiry to help the team to identify and develop current team strengths. Belbin can underpin how participants better understand teamwork. Another important element of the day is helping participants enhance communications skills, especially in regards to difficult but important conversations with colleagues. The day is built very much to meet your needs.
This is a core one day programme, but depending on the needs of the team some pre and post work maybe necessary.
