Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course participants will have:
- Demonstrated their proficiency as mediators within the health and social care setting.
- Researched and developed a sustainable code of practice for the application of mediation either within their workplace, or in their private practice.
- Reflected on their own behaviour and communication style and shown their ability to adapt to meet the needs of different client groups and organisational settings.
Syllabus details:
- This course builds on the certificate in Health and Social Care Mediation and Complaints Resolution model.
- Developing a Code of Practice for Health and Social Care Mediation service.
- Achieving equality and diversity within a mediation service.
- Advance listening and questioning skills.
- Co-mediation.
- Case studies that follow the stages of a mediation session.
- Testing agreements.
- Developing reflective practice.
- CPD and record keeping.
- Measuring success and monitoring a service.
Methodology
Classroom training will include:
- Small group work,
- Lectures,
- Videos,
- Structured role plays
- Peer and self assessment.
Work based learning will include:
- The management of at least one conflict resolution meeting ideally observed by a colleague or manager and feedback provided.
- Telephone de-brief of meeting and email tutorial support throughout.
Assessment
Participants will submit a portfolio containing
- structured assessment from self, peer and tutor assessment during the training
- managerial input from workplace (or volunteer placement) where available.
- One written assignment of 1500 words the importance and contents of a Code of Practice for mediation within their service.
Certification
A Certificate of Performance that counts towards a Certificate in Professional Development in Health and Social Care Mediation
